Matthew 13:57-58
…and they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.” And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
i’ve been thinking about this passage for a while now. The preceding passages are exclamations from people who have “known” Jesus, not KNOW. as if your future is solely determined by your upbringing or what tangible things anyone can grasp about you and hold you according to its imposed limitations. It didn’t mean people weren’t amazed at Jesus’ miracles, it means they questioned its origins because they couldn't understand. That part I can grasp, the bewilderment from those who think they know you in whole. The interesting part is that he didn’t do MANY miracles there after because of their lack of faith, FAITH being the conduit to more miracles. He still performed them, but because of a lack of a believing audience, he was disuaded to continue as strongly.
It seems like one must know their audience and be honest about it. Seems like Jesus didn’t want to force you to change your mind (nor that he or anyone could). But it was about the display and the reaction. Here are the facts, now how do you respond?
That can be applied to a lot of us in many ways. “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home”.
Be fierce.
