“Fist of Ozymandias”
The “Fist of Ozymandias” came about a couple of months ago when Ryan Flanzer of Szechuan Market approached us to do a collaboration tee for ComplexCon. Recently, we released a posse cut called “Fist of Pebbles” and basically we extended the title into a t shirt representing the inspiration for the title, which is the sonnet “Ozymandias” written by Percey Bysshe Shelley in 1818. Although the piece itself is about the Egyptian pharoah Ramses II and the erosion of the statue, to me it’s a representation of how all of an artists work last longer than the subject itself. To think for the future is the only way to be effective in the present.
The photoshoot and videos shoot for the piece was captured by Macy Bryant and was led creatively by NickyChulo and myself. The model Kamal Wilson (who sings on the chorus of the title track) represented this relationship between artist and stone on a beach in Malibu.
I’m so grateful that Ryan from Szechuan was down to help me bring this t-shirt to life and include me in his ComplexCon presentation. More and more I’d like to push the quality of product we produce and raise that price point to match the workload behind bringing some of these things to life. This is a continuation of the kind of life I want to live without waiting for any specific level of investment or co-sign to enact. This shit takes grit. But from that visceral of an experience can you find the ingredients to create something that lasts past the majority. Every thing we make feels like my part of my spirit is captured in the design, the physical piece.
